Autotrasporti Vercesi S.p.A., a company specialising in logistics for temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical and biomedical products, is using its brand new Green Thermo Park in Pozzuolo Martesana to distribute Covid-19 vaccines in Italy. The innovative 30,000 square metre build-to-suit platform built by Prologis is strategically located along the SP 103 Vecchia Cassanese road near the motorway exit of the A58 (also known as the Tangenziale Est Esterna di Milano – the outer ring road east of Milan).

Among the special features of the facility, to which Vercesi is transferring the activities previously carried out at its Vignate site, are separate storage areas set at different temperatures, including a 3,000 square meter cold room that can store pharmaceutical products down to -25 degrees Celsius.

Company CEO Paola Vercesi commented: "During the current crisis, we are doing as much as we can to facilitate the transport of vaccines, making all our vehicles available. This would not have been possible without the construction by Prologis of our new, innovative build-to-suit logistics platform in Pozzuolo Martesana, which allows us to store a wide range of temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products and diagnostic and biomedical equipment, as well as ADR goods”.

The building also has 1,650 square metres of office space. The platform complies with the standards of the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) and its sustainability has been prioritised though photovoltaic panels that generate electricity, advanced low-consumption LED lighting and technologies used to control the facility's main energy and maintenance systems remotely. These sustainability credentials have earned the building LEED Gold certification. Goods are handled through 31 bays with a large area of 25,000 square metres allocated to parking.

According to Paola Vercesi: "We want to grow further and in Prologis we have found the right partner to do so. The Thermo Park Vercesi was planned side by side with Prologis and represents the synthesis of the experience that we have gained over time. It provides our customers with areas built according to GMP guidelines, AIFA authorisation and TAPA certification that can meet the most diverse storage needs, including the requirements for ADR goods. Our new logistics platform reflects our commitment to green initiatives and forms part of our CSR approach to environmental implications and a strategic vision for the future".

The Thermo Park Vercesi represents the third development for Prologis in Pozzuolo Martesana and further consolidates our position in this strategic area on the outskirts of Milan.
