Cortilia

Cortilia, a food-tech company founded in 2011 by Marco Porcaro, and a market leader in sustainable, short-chain online shopping serving customers in Lombardy, Piedmont, Emilia Romagna, Liguria and Veneto, today inaugurated its new headquarters built by Prologis in the Milan suburb of Cassina de' Pecchi.

The new Class A building with LEED Gold environmental certification was part of the former Nokia industrial site on the outskirts of Milan. Prologis recovered the site, that had been left abandoned for more than a decade, converting it to a sustainable logistics facility, thus requalifying the area and giving it back to the community. The new 17,000 square metre build-to-suit facility is located within the 17,000 square metre multifunctional area and strategically positioned for B2C distribution both towards the city of Milan, as it is just 17 km away from the centre, and towards the Brianza area, given the road connections (TEEM - External East Ring Road, Tangenziale Est - East Ring Road) near the logistics and management headquarters. The nearby M2 underground metro line station will also make it easier for employees to get to the headquarters. All the corporate functions of the short-chain food e-commerce company are now brought together in one place.

The multifunctional facility houses the offices and the warehouse with different storage areas with different temperatures for optimum storage and handling of the entire agri-food and non-food product range distributed by the e-commerce company. It comprises more than 2,500 products from over 300 selected producers. The building's sustainability is assured by a state-of-the-art solar power system and a range of structural solutions aimed at maximising energy savings. The building also includes dozens of loading bays and ample parking spaces for vehicles and employees as well as electric vehicle charging stations.

“Construction of the new headquarters began in mid-2020 with the idea of creating a workspace that fully reflects who we are: technologically innovative and environmentally and socially responsible," commented Marco Porcaro, Founder and CEO of Cortilia. "Our objectives include strengthening logistical processes, supporting growth, and providing our employees with a work environment that improves and enriches their on-site professional experience while also having a positive impact on local communities. This important milestone also coincides with our obtaining B-Corp certification, an achievement that makes us even more proud of the choices we have made thus far and even more eager to continue along the path we started more than a decade ago".

"We are increasingly committed to the reclamation of abandoned or disused industrial areas to provide our customers with proximity or last-mile logistics locations that are ever closer to the consumer and sustainable," said Sandro Innocenti, senior vice president and country manager of Prologis Italy. "This allows us to avoid consuming land and launch urban regeneration projects that allow us to completely reclaim abandoned areas in our cities and give them a new lease on life. We are particularly pleased to have realised a state-of-the-art facility for Cortilia that will allow this Italian company to pursue its growth and development goals.”
