Rome, Italy’s Political Capital

Rome, Italy’s capital and cultural heart, is the most populous of Italy’s cities with over 4.3 million inhabitants.

Located in the center of the country, the metropolitan area is an important logistics center, well-served by motorways and railways, ensuring efficient distribution of goods to the rest of the country. Rome’s logistics market is driven mostly by consumption.
The city, which is several miles inland from the Mediterranean Sea on the Tiber river, is an active arena for national and international logistics and distribution. Rome’s international airport, Fiumicino, is Italy’s second-largest cargo hub. In 2017, the airport handled 40.9 million passengers and 179,000 tons of cargo.

The ancient Port of Civitavecchia, updated for the 21st century, is a significant shipping center and hub for intermodal logistics. Each year, the port, situated some 50 miles from Rome, handles more than 300,000 TEUs of cargo.
