With a population of more than one million, Bologna is both the capital of the metropolitan area of the same name and the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region.

The city of Bologna, home to one of the most advanced exhibition centers on the continent, is located in the eastern corridor of the Italian Peninsula, connecting the south and center to northern Italy and the rest of Europe.

Education is one of Bologna’s leading industries. The University of Bologna, founded over 1,000 years ago, is one of Europe’s oldest with an enrollment of 84,000 students. Other significant industries in Bologna include textiles, auto manufacturing, insurance, agricultural and food products. Industry and consumption drive demand for logistics and distribution real estate in the region.

Bologna is an important transportation and distribution hub for the region and the rest of Europe. Highways, high-speed and freight rail connect Bologna to key Italian population centers. The international Guglielmo Marconi Airport ranks fifth among Italian airports in number of passengers handled each year with traffic cargo reaching 14 million kilograms in 2017, up 21.2 percent over the year prior.

Prologis operates industrial properties and warehouses in the Bologna area and is the largest single owner and operator at Bologna Interporto, one of Europe’s most important logistics and intermodal platforms.
